## Cookies

Last updated 22 August 2026. Seven cookies in total. Three are ours and only keep the site working. The other four belong to Google and Microsoft, and none of them exist unless you say yes.

Nothing that needs your consent is stored until you give it. Analytics loads in a cookieless state and writes no cookie at all until you accept.

### 1. Strictly necessary. Always on.

These are exempt from consent because the site cannot do what you asked without them. There is no way to turn them off and still sign in.

| Cookie | Who sets it | What it does | Lasts |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `al_session` | AgencyLadder | Keeps you signed in after you click a magic link. Without it you would be signed out on every page. It holds a random session identifier and nothing else. | 30 days |
| `agl_seen` | AgencyLadder | Stops the visitor counter on the board counting the same person twice. It contains the literal character `1`. There is no identifier in it, so there is nothing in it to link back to you. | 1 year |
| `agl_consent` | AgencyLadder | Remembers the choice you made here, so we stop asking. It records which categories you allowed, when, and a random reference. Removing it makes the banner reappear. | 180 days |

### 2. Analytics. Only if you accept.

Google Analytics, so we can see which pages get read and where visitors arrive from. We look at it in aggregate. It is not used to build a profile of you, and we do not run advertising cookies on this site at all.

| Cookie | Who sets it | What it does | Lasts |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `_ga` | Google | Tells one browser apart from another so a repeat visit is not counted as a new person. | 2 years |
| `_ga_*` | Google | Holds the state of the current visit for this specific site. | 2 years |

### 3. Session replay. Only if you accept.

Microsoft Clarity records an anonymised playback of how people move through the board, so we can see where the design confuses someone rather than guessing. Keystrokes in form fields are masked. This is a separate choice from analytics, and it is off unless you turn it on, because a recording is a bigger ask than a page count.

| Cookie | Who sets it | What it does | Lasts |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `_clck`, `_clsk` | Microsoft | Ties the pages of one visit together into a single playback. | 1 year, 1 day |

### 4. Change your mind

Withdrawing is the same one click as giving it, and it takes effect immediately. Analytics and replay stop writing anything the moment you save.

You can also clear cookies in your browser, which resets everything here, or turn on Global Privacy Control, which we honour automatically.
